Don’t Forget The Licence!

On a reputable excursion, your fishing licence shuld be included. But if you’re sailing out alone, or fishing from the shore, you should apply for a permit from Portugal’s DGRM.

What about safety?

Before you head out to sea, spare a thought for safety. Excursions should supply life jackets and some basic safety training, but don’t forget the hidden dangers like sunburn and dehydration. You’ll be out in the open without shade, so take plenty of water, wear UV-protective clothing and apply sun cream every few hours.

And if you’re hunting for big game out in the deep sea, there are further risks.

Boating accidents happen. Collisions, fires and capsizes can be brought on by human error or inclement weather. So if you’re sailing without a hired skipper, check for weather updates and plan a safe route - then file a float plan with the nearest marina, and do all you can to stay on course.
